NAWIC MGM June 2023 Print

From the Board

We have had a busy few months here in Montgomery.  Our Southeast Region Spring Forum was held on May 19th & 20th and we welcomed members and guests from chapters across AL, GA, FL and TN.  Keep reading to see the highlights below!

We are not done for the year though. We are continuing our forward momentum by planning our first golf tournament, continuing to look for ways to promote NAWIC in the community, and getting in full planning mode for next year. Come join us at our July membership meeting to learn more about NAWIC.

The next big event will be our inaugural golf tournament on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at RTJ Capitol Hill in Prattville, AL. Save the tournament date and keep an ear open for Golf 101 - An All-Gals Golf Gathering to brush up on the basics so you sound like a pro talking up the tourney!  If you’ve heard “the guys” in the office talk about golf and always wondered about the game, this is your chance for a behind the scenes look.  Stay tuned for more details coming soon from Holly!

Southeast Region Members at Forum 2023, Montgomery, AL

Region Forum was a success!

We were delighted to host spring forum this year as we "Build Up" the Southeast Region.  Although the planning process was long and tedious, we pulled off a great event.  Thank you to all of our members, guests, employers and these amazing sponsors below; you made it possible!

Friday morning started off with the First-Timers meeting led by past Region Director, Cindy Spiropoulos and Presidents meeting led by current Region Director, Andrea Ward. Then the day was full of 6 different educational presentations.  There were two educational paths for this forum – construction education and professional development, with the goal that everyone in attendance would go home with some type of message to further them in their careers or personal lives.   Our speakers were extremely knowledgeable in their fields and provided so many take aways for our attendees.  Friday night’s welcome party was all about “Ladies Night” with plenty of time to socialize, play giant board games, dance and enjoy the food and drinks.

Saturday morning opened with a wonderful presentation from Tasha Scott of Maximized Growth where she showed us how to “Stay Strong and Lead Well”.  General session was then opened with the Pledge and presentation by Girl Scout Troop 9795 from Pike Road, AL.  The Girl Scouts also brought flowers from their garden project for each guest in attendance.  Our dynamic keynote speaker and new NAWIC member, Ashley Wheeler of Hunt Refining Co taught us how to “Face the Woman in the Mirror and Embrace our Power”.  Everyone left with their power poses and high fives and carried it through their day.  Our planning committee made sure to save time in our agenda so guests could get out and enjoy the beauty of our downtown areas.  We noticed several groups out and about in the city touring the museums, walking along the river front, enjoying the tastes of downtown or relaxing by the pool before it was time for the banquet.

Our chapter was awarded multiple honors that were presented at Saturday nights banquet.

  • Best Website – Small Chapter
  • Social Media – Small Chapter
  • WIC Week Marketing – Small Chapter
  • WIC Week Reaching Out, Awareness, and Advocacy – Small Chapter
  • WIC Week Let’s Build – Hands on Activity – Small Chapter

These awards are proof of the hard work our chapter has put in this year to strengthen, promote, and Build Up NAWIC in our community and as a whole.

With the help of our speakers, chapter members, employers and sponsors, Spring Forum was a success! We could not thank everyone that helped enough.
